Electronic Apex Locators and their Implications in Contemporary Clinical Practice: A Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background: The apical extent of instrument termination and final root-filling procedures have been found to be key prognostic factors in relation the outcome root canal treatment. precise location this point has always a challenge clinical endodontics. Until introduction contemporary electronic apex locators (EALs), conventional radiography was traditionally used determine working length. Since their inception more than 50 years ago, EALs drawn great deal attention. Objective: literature pertaining these devices is saturated yet inexhaustive controversial. While most reviews try summarize topic entirely, scope subject makes close impossible. Most systematic report lack high-quality evidence, making it impossible reach meaningful conclusion. This review focuses on its accuracy, specifically variables setting that practitioner might encounter while using device. Methods: Electronic database searches were undertaken combination search words find relevant studies about EALs. Results: PubMed (MEDLINE) engine published English language with no restrictions for time. Articles pertinent chosen included review. Conclusion: are indispensable practice endodontics; however, adjunct use radiographs remains reasonable practice.

Electronic Apex Locators — A Review

one of the fundamental parameters for endodontic success. Traditionally this has been determined using radiography, but electronic apex locators are increasingly being used. Electronic apex locators reduce the number of radiographs required and assist where radiographic methods create difficulty. The use of an electronic apex locator in combination with the radiograph is greater precision in th...

Electronic apex locators.

Prior to root canal treatment at least one undistorted radiograph is required to assess canal morphology. The apical extent of instrumentation and the final root filling have a role in treatment success, and are primarily determined radiographically. Electronic apex locators reduce the number of radiographs required and assist where radiographic methods create difficulty. They may also indicate...

Electronic Apex Locators and Conventional Radiograph in Working Length Measurement

The success of endodontic treatment is highly dependent on the adequate three-dimensional cleaning, shaping, disinfection, and obturation of the root canal system. It is universally accepted that the correct determination of the working length (WL) is one of the crucial steps in the process of a successful treatment. It is believed that root canal preparation and filling should be kept inside t...

In vitro comparison of three electronic apex locators.

INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of the Root ZX II Apex Locator (RZX), the Elements Apex Locator (ELE), and the Precision Apex Locator (PAL). METHODS Forty single-rooted extracted teeth were decoronated and the root canals coronally flared. Actual canal lengths were determined by inserting a #10 file until the tip was visualized (12.8x magnification) just wit...

An improved model for teaching use of electronic apex locators.

AIM To develop a simple, practical and inexpensive model, which enables the use of electronic apex locators (EALs) during pre-clinical and continuing education. METHODOLOGY Extracted teeth were placed in a mould and embedded in acrylic resin. The resin was applied in two consecutive steps to form a cavity around the root apices. A closable plastic tube serves as a valve, and a steel wire conn...
